It’s important for me to say and for you to know that Israel is a modern, developed country with a very happy and content population.
We are not a war torn nation. And by definition we are not a county at war even though we are at constantly defending ourselves and are surrounded by enemies sworn to annihilate us who are constantly attempting to harm and destroy us.
For the people of Israel this is nothing new.
Throughout history empires and nations have sought to destroy the Jewish people and in the process have brought judgment, destruction and even annihilation upon themselves. I won’t go into the history right now.
Allow me to draw your attention to the book of Nehemiah. I’d like to read a few verses.
Nehemiah 4:7-9
(NASB) 7 Now when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the Ashdodites heard that the repair of the walls of Jerusalem went on, and that the breaches began to be closed, they were very angry. 8 All of them conspired together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause a disturbance in it.
9 But we prayed to our God, and because of them we set up a guard against them day and night.
Nehemiah 4:16-17 (NASB)
16 From that day on, half of my servants carried on the work while half of them held the spears, the shields, the bows and the breastplates; and the captains were behind the whole house of Judah. 17 Those who were rebuilding the wall and those who carried burdens took their load with one hand doing the work and the other holding a weapon.
This historical account has rung true since the first groups of Jewish made their way to the land in the late 1800. And it is true today.
This is a beautiful, developed and advanced country which has been built and has thrived under attack and with the constant threat of annihilation.
Living here or visiting for a few days you what not notice or feel any of that.
The cities are bustling.
Restaurants, parks, clubs, beaches are always packed.
The atmosphere is very positive and optimistic with a joy and zest for life.
There is a great university life.
All the industries from food to technology are top notch and world changing.
Under fire for the last 100 years Israel has become a leader, innovator and influencer in almost every field: medicine, water, agriculture, high tech, education, cyber, military technology and much more.
The IDF and Israeli intelligence thwart tens of terrorists attacks on a daily basis and throughout the day.
All of us are in shock by what has happened and do not understand how it happened.
We are listening attentively to the directives of the home front and preparing for any escalation and possible additional fronts.
